Program Overview
San Joaquin Valley College has developed an exciting new program designed for LVNs that want to take the next step in their medical career. Currently licensed Vocational Nurses can complete all the required course work to be eligible for licensing as a Registered Nurse.
Accreditation
San Joaquin Valley College’s LVN to RN program is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).
The LVN to RN program offers the following benefits to admitted students:
- Guaranteed class schedule
- Graduates earn an A.S. Degree, and are prepared and qualified to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam
Admission Requirements
Prospective students must meet the following requirements for admission to the program:
- High school diploma or its equivalent
- Current California LVN license
- Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater on all post-secondary coursework
- Current CPR certification
Prospective students are responsible for providing proof of admission requirements and submitting additional required documents related to the application process. When a complete application file is received, the applicant will take entrance assessment exams, write a personal goal statement and meet with the RN Program Director and faculty committee for a personal interview. Final selection will be made by the Program Director and faculty committee based on points earned in the admission process.
Transfer of Credit
Prospective students who have completed all general education requirements at an accredited institution may be eligible to complete the core program in 50 weeks upon evaluation of their transcripts.

Class Schedule
Term 2 Thursday and Friday day classes
Terms 3-4
Friday day classes for lecture and labs
Saturday, Sunday, or Monday clinicals (12 hours per week- just one day per week)*
*Limited number of weekday clinicals may be required
Clinical Rotations
SJVC provides 2 instructors for every 12 students in a clinical rotation. Students complete clinical rotations in the following areas:
- Med-Surg
- Geriatrics
- Pediatrics
- OB
- Mental Health
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Home health
- Hospice
- Out-patient surgery
The application deadline is November 30th, 2009 for the next class start date (February 4th, 2010).
